Types of Intercultural Training Programs for International Assignments:

Our intercultural training programs for relocating personnel generally fall into one of the following different types of international ("relocation") assignment programs:

  • One- and two-day intercultural training programs for expatriates outbound on international assignments

  • Longer-term consulting arrangements

  • Intercultural training for spouses of international assignees

  • Youth intercultural relocation programs

  • Repatriation Programs for assignees returning form international assignments

One- and Two-Day Intercultural Training Programs:

Most of our intercultural training programs are either one or two days. We encourage our clients to choose the two-day option whenever possible--especially when assignees are relocating with a partner or other family members, or are first-time assignees who will benefit from a more in-depth exploration of the dynamics of adjusting to a new culture.

The two-day format provides the maximum opportunity for participants to really begin to learn to navigate the host culture and business culture differences. Of course, a great deal can be accomplished in a one-day training, as well. One-day training programs are offered for those who have limited time for training or are preparing for a shorter international assignments (i.e., a few days or weeks rather than a year or more).

U.S. companies spend billions of dollars per

year on early expatriate returns

Between 10% and 20% of all U.S. managers sent abroad on international assignments return early because of difficulties in adjusting to a foreign country. And of those who stayed for their entire assignment, nearly one third do not perform up to their supervisor’s expectations—again, because of cultural differences. Quality intercultural training, provided by professional intercultural trainers, can help to prevent these problems. Don’t make the costly mistake of failing to provide good quality intercultural training for your international assignees.
